<Fast Food>

1. Do you like to eat fast food? If so, what is your favorite kind of fast food? How often do you eat it?
2. How often do you go to fast food restaurants? What is the main reason that you go?
a. Because I like to eat fast food

c. To meet a girlfriend or a boyfriend
d. Another reason
3. Do you think that most fast food is "junk food"? Name some foods that you think are junk food. Why do you think they are junk food?
4. How many of these foreign fast food restaurants do you know? What kinds of food do they sell?

5. What is the future of fast food in Korea? Tell why you think so.
a. Fast food will become more and more popular in Korea.

7. Do you think that western food will ever become more popular than Korean food? Why or why not?
8. What kinds of snack foods did Koreans use to eat before there were fast food restaurants?

<Studying for Tests>

1. What is your opinion about Koreans taking tests? Tell why you think so.
a. Taking tests is necessary. I like to take tests.
b. I hate to take tests. There are too many tests to take in Korea.
2. Do you think that people in all countries have to take a lot of tests too, or do you think that Korea is special? Why do you think so?
3. What do you think is the best way to get a high score on a test?
a. Study each subject a little every day until the day of the test
b. Study very hard the night before the test

4. What do you think about staying up all night (not sleeping) the night before a big test? Why do you think so?
5. Korean high school seniors usually sleep very little when they study for the college entrance test. What do you think of that?
a. Sleeping 4 hours a night is enough. If we sleep longer, we can't get a good score on the test.
b. It's better to sleep more at night. Then it is easier to study well the next day.
6. How important is English conversation ability on the college entrance exam? Is it important, or is reading English and grammar enough?
7. Is cheating a big problem in middle school or high school? Do many students cheat on tests?
How should students be punished if they cheat on a test?

 

<Recycling and Conservation>

1. Do you agree that recycling is very important? Why or why not?
2. Do you think that most people in Korea know the real reasons why recycling is necessary?
3. Do you think the Korean government is doing enough to teach the people why recycling and conservation is
necessary?
4.. What would you say to someone who says that recycling is "too much trouble"?
5. Why are plastic bags bad for the environment?
6. What can people do to reduce the large number of plastic bags that are used by department stores, supermarkets, and discount stores? What problems will we have in the future if we do NOT recycle now?
7. How should people be punished if they throw garbage away along the roads and highways?
Where do the garbage collectors take the garbage that they pick up every day? Where are the recycling centers located? 
9. Is all the garbage that is picked up by the collectors recycled? If not, what percentage of it is recycled?

 

<World Population>

1. Do you think we need to worry about a population problem in the world, or do you think it is not
such a big problem? Why do you think so?
2. Does the Korean government have a population control policy? If so, what does the government
do to make people have fewer children?
3. Do you think that governments should tell their citizens how many children to have? Why or why not?
4. Do you think there will be enough food to feed all the people in the future? If not, when will the food "run out" (be not enough)? Why do you think so?

5. What things can we do to prevent a worldwide food shortage in the future?
6. What are scientists doing now to find new ways of producing more food?
7. What can farmers do to help produce more food for the world's population in the future?
8. What are some other problems that can occur if there are too many people in the world? Think about these areas:

9. How can conservation and recycling help to prevent problems in the future?

 

<Modern Korea>

1. Has Korea changed from when you were a small child? Can you remember how it was 10 years ago? What things are different today?
2. How often do you go shopping? What kinds of things do you shop for?
3. Where do you prefer to shop--at a shijang or at a discount store? Why?
4. What do you think the future is for outdoor markets (shijangs) in Korea?
Will there always be shijangs in Korea, or will they completely disappear someday? Tell why you think so.
5. Do you think the opening of fast food restaurants in Korea has changed Korean society very much from 20 or 25 years ago? Explain your opinion.
6. Do you think the new way of shopping in Korea shows that Korea has become "westernized" "or just "modernized"?  Why do you think so?  
7. Name some other things, besides shopping methods, that show "the karenpes here best rhenged a lot in 20 or 25 years, What other changes have occured? 
8. Do you think that Korea will ever become "too modern" and lose all of its traditional customs?
